Stocks down amid fears of worsened slowdown

BEIJING - China shares fell Thursday amid wait-and-see mood after more unsatisfactory economic data were released.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index lost 47.44 points, or 2.28 percent, to close at 2,031.68 points.

The smaller Shenzhen index slided 128.8 points, or 1.72 percent, to end at 7,361.49 points.

Combined turnover on the two bourses stood at 127.783 billion yuan (US$18.65 billion), down from 134.045 billion yuan for the previous trading day.
