(Xinhua)
Updated: 2008-12-11 11:16 DHAKA - Rasheda K Chowdhury, a Bangladeshi official who has visited China several times, has been deeply impressed by China's rapid development over the past three decades. "The least developed countries like Bangladesh are looking forward to learning from China as it has made great achievements since 1978," Chowdhury, cultural adviser of Bangladesh's caretaker government, told Xinhua during a panel celebrating the 30th anniversary of China's reform and opening up. Chowdhury said she was really impressed with China's "fascinating" social and economic development under pragmatic policies and wise leadership of the government. "Every developing country could learn from China," she said. As a leading country in Asia, China plays an important role in global negotiations on promoting regional development, Rasheda said, adding China has always been trying to help its neighbors, particularly in the event of natural disasters. Ashfaqur Rahman, former Bangladesh ambassador to China, also spoke highly of China's achievements in the past three decades. Rahman said the reform and opening-up policy brought China to the mainstream of the world after years of closing down. The reform and opening up not only brought economic changes but also cultural changes in China, especially the building of a harmonious society, Rahman said. He was confident that China would make more achievements under wise leadership of the government. Former Foreign Minister Abul Hasan Chowdhury said China has been developing in a "unique" way as great changes have taken place in many parts of China. "I knew how Shanghai's Pudong New Area looked like before... You can hardly image today's Pudong..." Chowdhury said. Chowdhury said the Chinese government has adopted pragmatic and flexible policies not only for the special economic zones but also for Hong Kong and Macao under the concept of "one country, two systems." He also praised the Chinese government's policy for Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region where he had visited once. |
