A granny in Nanjing, Jiangsu province, is considering suing her daughter-in-law for spiritual damages after the latter read her diaries and spread juicy information from them among neighbors.

Zhang Qin stumbled across the diaries written by her mother-in-law, Ding Xiuzhen, when she inadvertently packed them into a bag containing her son's toys.

"I thought my son had them for drawing purposes," Ms Zhang pleaded innocently.

"Not until I had a few glances at the diary did I realize they belonged to her and I stopped reading further."

Ding was furious her personal details, such as letters she had penned to her husband when she was young, had been leaked to nosey neighbors.

But a local lawyer said she had no grounds to sue her daughter-in-law because the incident had hardly ruined her life.
