Premature baby barely tips scales at just 600g

The lightest baby in Henan province was born in the provincial capital's Zhengzhou No 1 People's Hospital on Oct 27.

The mother Xiao Ying (not her real name) delivered her son 80 days ahead of her expected delivery date.

The baby weighed just 600 g, less than one-fifth of an ordinary newborn, and was 30 cm long.

It was born via Caesarean section because the mother suffered hypertension.

Doctors said the baby would not be discharged from hospital until he had grown to at least 2 kg.
