An official in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region recently sued a website for publishing two stories which claimed he had a mistress and accepted bribes.

The official surnamed Liu was a tax bureau director in the region who had been investigated by higher officials and queried by friends and relatives since the stories were published.

The website was launched by Zheng Baichun, a Beijing lawyer, to help "ernai", or mistresses, to protect their rights.

Liu's alleged mistress, surnamed Zhang, once contacted Zheng and asked the website to publish two stories on her relationship with Liu.

Liu claimed the stories were untrue and that they had disturbed his otherwise normal life.

He asked the website to remove the stories and is suing it for 130,000 yuan (US$19,000).
