Car crash survivor kills herself to escape pain

The family of a woman who committed suicide after suffering severe injuries in a car accident took the owner to court recently in Beijing.

Lady Wang, in her 40s, was riding a bike against traffic when she was hit by a BMW driver in June.

She was severely injured and received extensive treatment in hospital, but suffocated herself in her ward when she was unable to bear the intense pain, her husband said.

He then took the car owner to court for compensation.

Because Wang was fully responsible for the traffic accident and her husband could not prove his wife's suicide was directly linked to it, the court judged that the car owner only pay Wang's family 5,000 yuan.

The family accepted the compensation.
