A large bronze horse statue was unearthed in Xiangfan, Hubei province, last week.

The bronze 160-cm-tall relic was dug out from an ancient tomb and is the biggest bronze horse statue ever found on the Chinese mainland.

Dozens of precious articles were unearthed from the tombs of Wei or Jin Dynasties, dating back 1,700 years.

Archaeologists believe the bronze horse statue will shed great light on ancient cultures and lifestyles of the Central Plains.

Located in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, Xiangfan and the whole of Hubei province was an economic hub during ancient dynasties.
