The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index, which covers both A and B shares, tumbled 6.31 percent to 1,902 points. The Shenzhen Component Index lost 7.22 percent to 6,293 points.
The plunge was because of profit taking from rebounds on previous trading days, analysts said.
