Thirty-four people trapped in central China coal mine

ZHENGZHOU --Thirty-four miners were trapped in a flooded coal mine on Monday morning in central China's Henan Province, local government said.

The accident happened at about 7:20 a.m in the Gaomendong Coal Mine in Jiaxian County of Pingdingshan City, when 42 miners were working underground. Eight escaped, but 32 others were trapped, according to the provincial work safety administration.

The cause of the flooding is under investigation. Wang Dexue, deputy director of the administration, has arrived at the site to supervise the investigation.
