NANCHANG  -- A highway pileup left five people dead and 10 injured on Friday in east China's Jiangxi Province.

At least five vehicles were involved in the smash between 7:10 a.m. and 7:20 a.m. at a two-kilometer section of a highway in Dongxiang County of Fuzhou city.

Heavy fog appeared to have reduced visibility for drivers at the time, said traffic policemen of the provincial public security administration.

The injured sustained fractures or scratches and were described as stable and under medical observation, doctors said.

Police are trying to identify the victims.
