Suicidal burglar is undone by heavy load
(China Daily)
Updated: 2008-11-06 10:37 Police caught a burglar sitting back completely exhausted after his heavy heist foiled his getaway on a flight of stairs. ![]() The man surnamed Luo from Jiangxi province came to Shanghai two years ago dreaming of a sudden fortune only to find it exceedingly difficult to even eke out a living. Disheartened one night earlier this year, he scaled a 25-story residential building with the mind to commit suicide. But on the way up, several open windows on the 24th floor and an abandoned rope gave him other ideas. He fixed one end of the rope to the building top and the other to a balcony on the 24th floor before rapelling into an apartment, where he stole 15,000 yuan ($2,200), two laptops and some other loot. When the resident woke, he dialed police and chased Luo down the stairs until he was forced, under the weight of his heavy load, to take a breather on the 19th floor. Police happily helped him to his feet and Luo was later sentenced to four years jail and fined 3,000 yuan. (Shanghai Evening Post) |
