China's Agriculture Minister Sun Zhengcai said on Sunday that the recent incident of eggs found to contain melamine was an individual case. He underlined that most of the eggs being sold on the market are safe to eat.

Sun Zhengcai inspected egg production in Dingxing county in north China's Hebei Province. Egg production in the province accounts for 10 percent of the country's total.

Egg consumption has been affected since some batches of eggs were found to contain melamine. The minister moved to reassure the public about egg quality.

Official figures from recent quality checks of over 22-thousand batches of feed show nearly 98 percent were found up to standard.
