LHASA -- A heavy snow, which began to fall on Sunday in southwest China's Tibet, has left two people missing and blocked roads in many places. Armed police are struggling to clear roads to restore traffic.

As of 9 p.m. Monday, the Sichuan-Tibet road had 160 km of sections covered with snow in Tibet. Snow drifts on the roads were up to one meter deep, local authorities said.

The storm caused a power cut in the whole Bomi County. About 60 people and 20 vehicles were stranded on a road from Bomi to Medog County.

A Medog county official said two stranded people went missing after they attempted to leave on their own.

Some areas first hit by rainstorm and then snow reported precipitation of up to 57 mm from 8 a.m. Sunday to 8 a.m. Monday.

The regional meteorological bureau said most parts of Tibet would have heavy snow on Monday.
