DAR ES SALAAM -- China's medical teams have made dramatic contributions to the improvement of Tanzania's medical services over the past 40 years, said Tanzania's Chief Medical Officer Deo Mtasiwa on Wednesday.

The Tanzanian people will never forget the aid and friendship offered by China, Mtasiwa said in meeting with visiting Chinese Health Ministry spokesman Mao Qun'an.

Mtasiwa said this year marked the 40th anniversary of China's medical aid to Tanzania. During the past years, the Chinese doctors have treated and cured many Tanzanians with their high-level medical skills.

Senior official with the Tanzanian Health Ministry Zachery Berege also said that China had not only sent medial teams to Tanzania, but also helped train Tanzanian doctors.

The Chinese doctors were prestigious in Tanzania and the Chinese traditional medicine has been widely recognized by Tanzanian people, Berege added.

Expressing hope that China and Tanzania can continue to enhance cooperation in medical field, Deputy Secretary General of the Tanzanian Foreign Ministry Charles Sanga said Tanzanians would always bear in mind the Chinese doctors' unselfish help.

2008 marks the 45th anniversary of China's medical aid abroad and 40th anniversary of China's medical aid to Africa.
