Lovelorn burglar caught by cell phone
(Shanghai Daily)
Updated: 2008-09-10 14:21 A burglar fell in love with a girl in a dorm he was ransacking and started courting her with text messages. After two weeks of romantic messages, the man, surnamed Li, went to a coffee bar to meet the girl of his dreams. Sadly for him his true love was not there - but the police were and they grabbed the lovelorn burglar immediately. On August 14 the girl and her colleagues were sleeping in their dorm in Hebei Province when the burglar snuck in through an unlocked window, the Yanzhao Metropolis Daily reported Tuesday. The burglar set about grabbing all the valuables he could find but his efforts woke the girls. He pulled a knife and threatened he would hurt them if they made a sound. The girls remained silent as the intruder grabbed more loot and then his eye fell on one of the girls who was trembling in fear. For him it was love at first sight. Before he jumped out of the window and fled, he managed to get the girl's cell phone number. About a week later the girl received a phone call from a stranger who told her: "I like you. We have met before. Did you forget?" The girl thought she recognized his voice and later realized it was the burglar. She told Baoding City police, who helped her text the burglar and arrange a meeting. He then sat in a coffee shop to wait for the woman of his dreams but all he got were the policemen of his nightmares. |
