Waste not, want not: student donates uniforms

Zhu Shilei expects to collect at least 1,000 army uniforms out of the 2,000 that freshmen from his university buy and wear this year for military training at the start of their new school term in Changsha, capital of Hunan province.

Zhu, a Hunan University of Industry sophomore, intends to distribute the cast-off uniforms to local migrant workers.

Zhu started amassing uniforms last year when he discovered that first year students seldom wear their uniforms again after finishing their two-week military training.

As each set costs 75 yuan ($11), throwing them away is a criminal waste, Zhu said.

Zhu collected more than 500 such uniforms last year.
