Penitent infertile husband begs ex-wife to remarry

Wu Xin, 30, divorced his wife on Aug 4 in Wuhan, capital of Hubei province, because he believed her incapable of bearing a child. But he remarried her the same day after he learned it was he, not she, who was infertile.

Wu decided to divorce his wife Wang Ping of four years because she had not fallen pregnant, even though doctors had attested to her health.

The couple obtained an official divorce, at Wu's insistence, at the local marriage registration office in the morning. Wu, however, was advised by marriage registration staff to see a doctor.

Wu was stunned and overcome with regret when doctors told him he was infertile as a result of having had parotitis (mumps) as a child.

Wu offered Wang his deepest, most sincere apologies, and the pair remarried in the afternoon.
