Chinese president meets Slovak counterpart

BEIJING - Chinese President Hu Jintao met here Monday with President of Slovakia Ivan Gashparovic, who attended the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games on August 8.

Hu called Gashparovic an "old friend of the Chinese people" and spoke highly of his efforts to promote China-Slovakia friendship over the past years.

The Chinese president said he is ready to exchange views with Gashparovic on bilateral relations and issues of common concern.

Gashparovic visited China in 1995 as Slovak parliament speaker.

He said he has attended four Olympic Games but the Beijing Games are the best prepared and most successful.
