Top political advisor meets foreign guests

Updated: 2008-08-09 18:15 BEIJING - China's top political advisor Jia Qinglin met with foreign guests attending the Beijing Olympic Games opening ceremony, at the Great Hall of the People here Saturday. Jia, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, met respectively with former Indonesian President Megawati Sukarno and former Cypriot President Tassos Papadopoulos. While meeting with Megawati Sukarno, Jia first spoke highly of her contribution to the development of China-Indonesia relations. Noting the bilateral ties has stepped into a fast-growing stage in a sound and stable manner, he hoped the two sides join hands to boost the strategic partnership and make new contributions to the regional and world peace and development. Voicing her firm determination to further contributing to the bilateral ties, Sukarno said she believed that Beijing Olympics will further mutual understanding and friendship among peoples all over the world. During the meeting with Papadopoulos, Jia said the countries had witnessed a sound and stable development of bilateral ties since the establishment of diplomatic ties 37 years ago. China attached much importance to the friendly cooperative relations with Cyprus and pledged to consolidate the political foundation of the two sides and level up the bilateral ties to a new stage. Papadopoulos said Cyprus thought highly of Cyprus-China relations and would adhere to the one-China policy. He also expressed that Cyprus will deepen cooperation with China in various fields. |
