Stallion attacks owner about to slaughter its mare

A stallion threw off its halter and seriously injured its owner surnamed Chen on Tuesday night in Guilin, the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, when it realized that Chen intended to slaughter its mare.

Chen was rushed to Guilin No 2 People's Hospital where she underwent two hours of surgery and received 40 stitches to her face.

The incident occurred around 10 pm in the city's Dahe township, when Chen's son tied the mare to a tree with the intention of slaughtering it.

The stallion, which had broken in, suddenly threw off its halter, reared and lashed out at Chen's face with its hooves.

Chen said she had brought the stallion to the riverside to graze and drink the previous evening. The horses have been mates for several years.
