Colliery blast kills five in SW China

KUNMING - Five miners died and one was injured in an explosion in a coalmine in southwest China's Yunnan Province on Friday, according to Xuanwei city government Saturday.

The accident occurred at 8:56 a.m. when 21 miners were working in the Shuanghe Colliery in Shuanghe Township, Xuanwei City. Fifteen people were rescued.

The injured person was taken to the Xuanwei People's Hospital for treatment, and was out of danger, according to the city government.

An investigation was underway into the exact cause of the accident. The colliery is fully licensed.
