Three world-class philharmonics to perform in China

Updated: 2008-08-01 10:41 SHANGHAI -- Three internationally renowned classical philharmonic orchestras will visit Shanghai this autumn. The Orchestra Filarmonica Della Scala will raise the curtain of the Shanghai Oriental Art Center's 2008-2009 concert season on September 12 under the baton of Myung-Whun Chung. The Italian orchestra will play Italian music, including Rossini's "Guglielmo Tell, Overture," and Puccini's "Manon, Intermezzo." The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra will perform at the center on October 2 and 3. The British orchestra will be conducted by American Leonard Slatkin. Works by British composers will be introduced, especially on the first day, while the orchestra will perform European and American pieces the next day. The German NDR Sinfonieorchester, under the baton of Christoph von Dohnanyi, will hold two concerts by the orchestra on October 10 and 11. The Orchestra Filarmonica Della Scala will also give a similar performance on the September 13 on the stage of the National Center of Performing Arts in Beijing. It will be the orchestra's first visit to the two cities. |
