Yantai Maritime Affairs Bureau on Wednesday began salvaging a Republic of Korea vessel named Golden Rose that was sunken over three years ago.

According to Yantai Maritime Affairs Bureau, the salvaging operation is divided into three steps -- cleaning up obstacles, pumping oil and cut things which hinder the salvating progression.

The project will be completed at the end of September.

The South Korean vessel sank after colliding with Jinsheng, a Saint Vincent-registered container ship, in heavy fog near Bohai Strait on May 12, 2005.

For safety and pollution prevention during the operation, meticulous preparations would be made for emergency and oil spill.
