One dead, nine ill after drinking rice wine in S China

GUANGZHOU -- One man died and nine others were hospitalized after drinking rice wine in a village in the southern Guangdong Province on Wednesday afternoon.

According to a man surnamed Xiao, one of those apparently poisoned, about 20 people were celebrating a woman's birthday in Haolang Village, Leizhou City. Ten drank rice wine before developing symptoms of dizziness and nausea.

The wine with honey wax was purchased by the woman's son in a nearby county. An investigation is under way.
