Years after cutting out meat and animal fats from his diet, a middle-aged man from Harbin, capital of Heilongjiang province, began experiencing erectile dysfunction.

After observing the health problems caused by obesity that his contemporaries suffered, such as high blood pressure, coronary heart disease and diabetes, he decided to become a vegetarian in order to keep fit.

A few years later, to his dismay, he lost his libido.

Upon consulting the doctor he was told: "Animal fats are necessary for human beings to maintain nutritional balance."

Dr Wang went on to say: "Sex hormones are affected by eating an exclusively vegetarian diet by virtue of the absence of animal fats necessary to stimulate them."
