Chinese among WPC Young Author Award winners

Updated: 2008-07-03 07:09 MADRID - Liang Jifeng, a young engineer from China National Offshore Oil Corp. was more then happy to be one of the winners of the Young Author Awards at the 19th World Petroleum Congress (WPC) here on Wednesday. Young men and women from Brazil and the United Kingdom took two their awards for two other papers they have co-written at the on-going oil congress. Liang's paper on the combination process of oil residue decarbonization, is said to be able to get five to 10 percent of light oil from residue if successfully put into operation. Liang said that there might still be quite a few nuts to crack on his way to put the process into commercial operation, but he was "encouraged by the WPC award," which for him is a surprise. The 29-year-old Chinese said that he has drawn great inspiration from his team at the Chinese offshore oil company which pays great attention on technology research. Juan Bachiller, Vice-president of the Spanish Organizing Committee of the 19th World Petroleum Congress, chaired the awarding ceremony for the awards, created by the Spanish Organizing Committee as a recognition to the best projects and posters carried out by professionals of the oil sector who are younger than 35 years old. More than 63 projects from different parts of the world were presented for these awards. |
