A cow kept by a farmer from a village of Liuhe county, Jilin province, gave birth to a calf with six legs.

"It's the most strange calf I've ever seen in recent years for it had altogether six legs, with two extra of them on its back," Sun Hongwu, the farmer said.

A local vet said a rare genetic variation had caused the deformity.

With surgery to remove two of the legs, the calf could live healthily.

"But, it will not be able to work for farming," he said.
