She also helped set up temporary homes, and activity rooms for children at various camps.

One of the more prominent roles the league has played in the past five years is strengthening the country's economy, and improving public services through volunteer work, Li said.

The Youth League has sent volunteers to the remote western areas of the country, and to developing countries such as Laos and Ethiopia.

They serve as a vital group in helping the disadvantaged.

They are also dedicated to making the Olympic Games in August a success

The nation's biggest volunteer organization, the Chinese Young Volunteers Association, is a unit of the league.

The league attributes its success to long-established credibility and extensive network nationwide, Li said.

Its guidance and influence in colleges and high schools are a boon to students and it is responsible for their participation in disaster relief and reconstruction in the quake-hit areas, Li said.
