SANYA -- China respects, understands and supports all measures taken by the Pakistani government to maintain domestic peace and stability, and promote economic development, Chinese President Hu Jintao said here Friday.
Hu made the remarks in talks with visiting Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf who was here for a state visit.
After listening to President Musharraf's briefing on the situation in Pakistan, Hu said that China admires the achievements made by President Musharraf and the Pakistani government in the domestic and diplomatic fields in the past years.
China believed, Hu said, that Pakistan would make continuous progress in social and economic development under the leadership of President Musharraf and the Pakistani government.
Sources with the Chinese Foreign Ministry said previously that President Musharraf would also attend the opening ceremony of the annual meeting of Boao Forum for Asia, a high-level forum for the wide-ranging discussion among political, commercial and academic figures in Asia and the world.
This year's annual meeting, with the theme of "Green Asia: Moving Towards Win-win Through Changes," is scheduled to open on April 12.
