After catching his unemployed son living beyond his means by buying on credit, a father surnamed Liu from Beijing's Xuanwu district called police and asked them to arrest his son for credit card fraud.

Liu's 23-year-old son lost his job last year and moved in with his father. Although he had no money of his own, the young man would often dress in expensive name brand clothes. Curiosity piqued, Liu looked in his son's wallet and saw many credit cards.

Suspecting his son had overdrawn on the cards, Liu urged him to give himself up to police. His son refused, so Liu called police on Saturday.

Police determined he had gone 40,000 yuan ($5,700) in debt.
