KUNMING - A cargo train came off the tracks in southwest China's Yunnan Province early Monday, destroying two houses and burying six people, local government said.

Around 6:22 a.m. the locomotive of the cargo train, which had been parked near Xiaojijie stop inside Xuanwei, eastern Yunnan, on the Guiyang-Kunming railway line, suddenly ran out of control and sped along the line, leading to the overturning of many carriages, the destruction of two houses and the burying of six people, said a release from the press office of Yunnan Provincial Government late on Monday.

The loco had not been properly braked, said the press release.

Normal operation of the Guiyang-Kunming railway line was suspended temporarily because of the accident.
