SHANGHAI -- The United States will push forward  exports of high-tech products for civilian use to China, said US Commerce Under Secretary for Industry and Security Mario Mancuso here on Wednesday.

Mancuso made the remarks one day after China and the United States signed in Beijing the Guidelines for China-US High Technology and Strategic Trade Development.

By signing the guidelines, the two nations realized that a creative way was needed to promote cooperation in the trade of high-tech products for civilian use, and they needed work together to find solutions to problems during the cooperation, he added.

China and the United States started their third Strategic Economic Dialogue in Beijing on Wednesday, with Chinese Vice Premier Wu Yi and US Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson co-chairing as special envoys of the two heads of state. The meeting ends on Thursday.

China and the United States signed 14 agreements and memoranda, including the one on high technology on Tuesday, before the dialogue started.
