Guangzhou -- Ten people died and seven were injured in a fire at a restaurant in south China's Guangdong Province on Wednesday afternoon, local officials said.

The fire at the Mingdian Western-style Restaurant in Zhangmutou town, Dongguan city, was reported at 5:07 pm and the fire was put out by 5:22 pm, the officials said.

Fire fighters estimated that the fire spread to more than 400 square meters.

Police are investigating the cause of the blaze.
