Rare monkey-faced eagle discovered in Guangdong(China Daily)
Updated: 2007-12-06 08:55 A monkey-faced eagle caught by a villager in Xuwen County, Guangdong Province, on Monday, has been attracting a lot of attention. The 0.5 kg bird, 25.4 cm tall, was found in a forest near Jinhe Township. Experts said the State-protected species, on the verge of extinction, was the first seen in Guangdong. The bird was sent to officials at the local forestry department and was to be released back into the wild after check-ups. The monkey-faced eagle feeds on snakes and small rodents.
