Beijing considers resuming natural sand exports to Taiwan

The Chinese mainland is considering resuming natural sand exports to Taiwan, according to a mainland spokeswoman in Beijing on Wednesday.

"Chinese mainland is considering resuming the exports of natural sand to Taiwan and welcomes Taiwan's non-governmental organizations to negotiate with the mainland," said Fan Liqing, spokeswoman of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council at the regular press conference.

"The mainland's related department is negotiating with several non-governmental organizations of Taiwan on natural sand exports," said Tang Wei, an official with the Commerce Ministry who is in charge of trade affairs between the mainland and Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao

Tang said "we hope the natural sand shortage problem in Taiwan can be solved as soon as possible."
