Ancient seeds found recently in a tomb from the Eastern Han Dynasty (AD 25-220) in Yulin, Northwest China's Shaanxi Province have surprisingly started germinating.

The seeds were found in pottery buried in the tomb. On the ware are the characters for yongyuan, which represents the year AD 89.

From this evidence it was determined the seeds, which were likely from ancient crops, were deposited about 1,918 years ago.
