FUZHOU -- A security guard, who killed two of his colleagues in order to rob the bank security van he was supposed to be guarding, was executed on Monday in southeast China.

Zheng Hongbin, 35, a native of Putian city in the coastal Fujian Province, was executed after the municipal Supreme People's Court upheld the original death sentence verdict.

Zheng shot both his colleagues in the security van on December 23. The driver died immediately and the other died after emergency medical treatment failed.

Zheng fled the scene with 236,250 yuan (31,250 U.S. dollars), but was caught a day later and the cash was recovered.

He had planned to use the money to pay off his hefty gambling debts.
