Former Shanghai Party Chief Chen Liangyu is being held in a jail pending trial, said Gan Yisheng, a disciplinary official.

"The prosecutors are investigating Chen's case and the court will decide a date for the trial," he said, adding Chen was in good health.

Chen, also a former member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, is a key figure behind the largest ever social security fund scandal involving billions of yuan.
