NANJING- A tree that fell on tracks after a lightning strike caused a one-hour stoppage on a section of the Beijing-Shanghai railway, delaying five trains carrying almost 2,000 passengers, railway sources said on Thursday.

A fast-speed train from Shanghai to Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu Province, stopped at around 2:25 p.m. on Thursday on the Suzhou section in Jiangsu where the tree blocked the rails and caused a power cut on the railway, according to the Shanghai Railway Bureau.

The trains resumed after workers repaired the line, but five fast-speed trains in the Nanjing station were delayed.
