The upcoming exercise of member-states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is a prototype of an anti-terrorist operation, deputy commander of Russian's Ground Force, Lieutenant-General Vladimir Moltenskoy said Saturday.

The SCO exercise code named Peace Mission-2007 is, "in essence, a prototype of an anti-terrorist operation, the major task of which is to neutralize resistance and destroy terrorists," Moltenskoy was quoted as saying by the Itar-Tass news agency at the Cherbarkul training area, near the south Ural city of Chelyabinsk.

"The maneuvers will be broadcast by television. A documentary film will be made and be used as training aid for the Armed Forces of the SCO member-states," the Russian general said.

"The SCO military-political leadership will give an assessment to the troops' actions during the exercise," Moltenskoy said.

The Peaceful Mission-2007 exercises will be held on the territory of the Volga-Urals military district on Aug. 9-17 with the participation of the Russian Armed Forces, units of the 34th motor rifle division, army and tactical aviation of the 5th army of the Air Forces and Air Defense, units of Airborne Forces, Interior Forces, Corrections Central Department, Border Service and other departments.
