NANNING -- Death toll from a traffic accident in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region has risen to 14, after doctors failed to save a severely injured patient, sources with the local government said Wednesday.

Forty-seven people still remain in a local hospital. The regional government has organized a team to investigate the accident.

The fatal accident occurred at around 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday on a road that connects Cenxi City in southwestern Guangxi and the neighboring Luoding City in Guangdong Province, when a bus carrying 55 people collided head on with a truck coming in the opposite direction, a local official said.

The collision also affected a motorcycle which was passing by, he said.
