Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang said Tuesday that developed countries should provide more funds and technological support to developing countries to help them address climate change.

"We call on developed countries to shoulder their responsibilities," Qin told a regular press conference. "When they help developing countries, they are in fact helping themselves."

China maintains that the international community should abide by the principle of "common but differentiated responsibilities" on the issue of climate change, Qin said.

"This doesn't mean that developing countries will make no efforts," said Qin.

On the contrary, all developing countries including China should actively address the challenges posed by climate change in function of their national strength and their level of economic development, the spokesman said.
