KUNMING -- About 50 primary school children in southwest China's Yunnan Province were hospitalized on Thursday night after eating at their school canteen, the local government said on Friday.

The children felt dizzy and suffered stomachaches after eating dinner at Huale Central Primary School in Jinning County, said local publicity official Li Feihong.

School authorities sent the children to a local clinic and the serious cases were treated at the No. 2 People's Hospital in the county seat, he said.

Most of the children felt better by Friday morning, but remained under observation at the two hospitals.

Li said the local health department had found no evidence of food poisoning after they tested samples of the food.

Yet at least two students complained that the food tasted strange.

An investigation is underway.
