Lack of early planning affects job huntBy Zhang Xi (Chinadaily.com.cn)Updated: 2007-05-08 16:56 Nearly 60 percent of college students in Ningbo, in Zhejiang Province, lack clear career goals, according to a survey conducted by the municipal government. The survey indicates 54.9 percent of students know what their ideal careers will be, while 45.1 percent do not know. And 65.5 percent of the respondents know their interests and capabilities, and the rest have not identified their strengths. The author of the survey said more than 60 percent of students only started to thinking about their career path as late as their senior year, which will negatively affect their chances of getting jobs in their desired fields. Meanwhile, some students still do not realize harsh reality of finding a good job. And part of the reason is because they have high salary expectations. In the survey, 29.2 percent of students expect to make 2,000-3,000 yuan(US$256-384)per month as the minimum salary. Apart from salary, 72.6 percent of students want to get a challenging job with little supervision and lots of creativity. The author of the survey thinks the impractical criteria will cause graduates to fail in their job search. Interview strategies alone cannot help you find a job Some graduates depend on interview strategies to find a job, but "it is not
the right way to solve the problem of unemployment", said the author of the
survey. "What they should do is focus on their personal capabilities and their
ability to adapt to society. In other words, they should be able to judge,
express, study and communicate, with professional ability, have solid knowledge
and strong practical ability." |
