The Honorary Chairman of the Chinese Kuomintang Party, Lien Chan, declared on Monday before departing the capital, that the Beijing Olympic Games will be a success.

Lien, was in Beijing for the third cross-strait forum on economics, trade and cultural. He also visited some Olympic sites during his stay.

"Seeing how Beijing is accelerating construction for the Olympic games and the changes that happen each day, I believe the Beijing Olympic Games will be a successful, splendid and delightful gathering," he said.

He said the package of new policies to promote economic, trade and cultural relations across the Taiwan Strait announced by the mainland on Sunday will definitely be welcomed by Taiwan compatriots.

A total of 13 new policies, concerning transportation, education and tourism, were announced at Sunday's closing ceremony of a two-day cross-Strait forum, co-sponsored by the Communist Party of China and the Chinese Kuomintang Party, Taiwan's major opposition party.

He hoped the Taiwan authorities will take responsibility and secure the interests for Taiwanese by reaping the fruits of the forum.
