A young man from Jinzhou, Liaoning, threw away a lottery ticket worth 400,000 yuan ($51,600), which would have been the biggest prize in his life.

He became aware of what had happened the day after his prize was officially confirmed. The local lottery sales location had to validate his lottery ticket by Sunday, the last day he could present it under lottery rules.

The man, who declined to be named, said he bought the same type of lottery ticket for almost a month. He had simply thrown all the tickets away days ago, not realizing one of them had won a huge prize.
