Housing the poor a priorityBy Li Qian (Chinadaily.com.cn)Updated: 2007-03-08 17:25 Stabilizing soaring housing price and ensuring home availability for low-income citizens, as Premier Wen talked in his annual report at the National People's Congress, will be the focus of this year's housing management efforts. Real estate industry is currently one of the pillars bolstering national economy, and will boost China for at least another decade along with car manufacturing according to Xinhua. However, the skyrocketing house price has made the dream of many who long for better living conditions impossible. Quite a few regional officials are responsible to the price soar in cities where high housing prices are deemed to be a symbol of a prosperous economy and an achievement of local authorities. Low-income citizens could expect cheap rent apartments this year, Minister of Construction Wang Guangtao told CCTV Thursday, saying the government was planning to pour 10 billion yuan in a housing project for poor citizens. Economical houses system, according to Wang, will be modified to make it in line with altered situations. "The government, as well as real estate developers, must pay more attention to low and medium-income citizens, and not just keeping eyes on profit," Wang said. |
