Repair work on Beijing's Chairman Mao Memorial Hall will start from March
3rd, ending on September 20th. The hall will close for public throughout this
period.
The hall was established in May, 1977, opening to the public in September the
same year. It has received 158 million visits so far.
Memorial Hall, where late Chairman Mao Zedong's body was preserved and
exhibited, is a hot tourism attraction in Beijing's Tian'anmen Square.
Mao Zedong (1893-1976), a native of Hunan Province in central China, was one
of the founding members of the Communist Party of China. He served as chairman
of the CPC Central Committee from 1945 to 1976, and he was also the first head
of state of the People's Republic of China.
