Wind blows Chinese train off tracks, 3 dead

Strong winds blew at least 10 cars of a train off the tracks in China's far western region of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region today, killing three passengers.

Two passengers were seriously hurt and another 32 lightly injured, Reuters reported, citing Xinhua news agency.

The train had just left Turpan station, which lies about 200 kilometers southeast of regional capital Urumqi, the report said.

The accident happened in a mountainous region known for its extreme weather conditions, Xinhua added.
