Female descendants will be recorded into the Confucius family tree for the first time, Xinhua news agency reported today.

Kong Dehong, a Confucius descendant directing the fifth update of the family tree, said female members were never added to the family tree in the previous updates, but this time their names will be recorded in the same size font as the men's, and their spouse's name will be listed in a smaller font size.

Kong said minority nationalities and overseas descendants will also be listed on the family tree this time.

The ongoing fifth update has collected 1.2 million descendents' information, 20 percent of which are female.

Some descendents are from the United States, Korea, Australia, Switzerland, and Malaysia.

The Confucius' family tree is regarded as the worlds longest, with more than 80 generations.
